Los Quetzales Mexican Dance Ensemble, founded in Arlington, VA in 1998, by its Executive and Artistic Director, Laura Ortiz.
Los Quetzales is supported in part by Arlington County, Arlington Economic Development through their Cultural Affairs Division, and by the Arlington Commission for the Arts.
Since its beginnings, Los Quetzales has collaborated with other local Arlington County supported groups, performing at their various local events, such as the International Festivals, Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations, Arlington County School events, and festivals, and Parish festivals at St. Anne's Catholic Church.
Los Quetzales presents one, or two dance concerts per year, mostly accompanied by live music. Our theatre programs bring the local communities together to celebrate the culture and traditions of Mexico.
For the past 26 years the company has gained the reputation as 'Northern Virginia's Premier Performing Company of Mexican Folklore.'

Presenting the rich cultural traditions of Mexico provides a realistic interpretation of the colorful authentic costumes, dances, traditions, music, and culture. Dance classes year round beginner to advance levels performance rehearsals for Advance level students, or professional dancers all are welcome to join rehearsals, learn the repertoire and perform with the group
This class does not require previous dance experience. Students will learn basic rhythmic footwork, and dances of different regions, or states. Basic ballet, flamenco, and folk dance methods/dance styles and exercises are used. Students will learn dances of various states and of diverse styles, as well as simple/basic choreography.
This class is designed to introduce young children to the arts. Counting, rhythm, music, and dance are taught as a fun, and structured educational activity.
The class from 7 to 8 pm, doesn't require previous dance experience, but it is a fast-paced class, which requires coordination, focus, ability to exercise, walk fast, turn, etc. Consistency is the key to not fall behind. Thus attending class on a regular basis is essential to improve skills, and to acquire clean technical footwork. Level of difficulty will increase as class progresses. Students will learn dances of diverse styles, or regions. Students will learn about the world influences in the diverse music and dance styles per region.
